Dwarka Expressway’s 27 km service roads were due to open this month

Anyone who lives in a sector along Dwarka Expressway knows the problem. The main expressway is fast, but getting on and off it from your own sector often isn’t. Local traffic ends up using the main carriageway for short trips, and cars cut in and out wherever they can.

GMDA’s answer is a network of service roads on both sides of the expressway. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority started the project in March 2024. It covers 27 km of two-lane service road, each lane section 7.5 metres wide, and costs ₹99 crore. By June this year the work was about 70% done, and GMDA set September 2026 as the opening target.

The project also includes 16.5 km of RCC box drains, built to stop the waterlogging that has flooded parts of the corridor in past monsoons. Proper entry and exit points to the main carriageway are part of the plan too.

“The service roads will ease local traffic and manage entry and exit points to the expressway,” GMDA executive engineer Abhinav Verma said in June.

The project has been a long time coming. In February 2024, NHAI raised safety concerns about local traffic entering the expressway at unauthorised points, because the service roads weren’t ready. For residents, finished service roads should mean shorter trips to schools, markets and the next sector without joining expressway traffic.

What it means if you’re buying here

We cover projects in Sectors 99A, 104 and 113, all of which sit on the expressway. For these sectors, the service roads matter more than any new flyover. They decide how easy the daily drive to school or the market is. If you’re comparing two projects on the corridor, ask which one has its gate opening onto a finished service road. It makes a real difference to everyday life, and it’s something a brochure won’t tell you.

We haven’t yet seen an official opening announcement from GMDA. We’ll update this post when the roads open.
